VEGAS Pro is the Windows NLE with the cleanest license story among the big commercial editors. We read the End User License Agreement so you do not have to: there is no content clause in it. Nothing about obscenity, nothing about adult material, and termination is breach-based with 30 days written notice, not a discretionary kill switch. For a professional adult workflow on Windows, that matters more than any feature checklist.
Ownership changed in 2026. Boris FX acquired VEGAS Pro from MAGIX in March 2026, and the product now ships in three editions: Pro, Plus, and Ultimate, sold as either a subscription or a perpetual license. A 15-day trial gives full access with no card required. Terms can churn after an acquisition, so recheck the EULA before renewing; as of this writing it is clean.
Activation runs through a Boris FX account. Licensing requires signing in, so this is not an air-gapped tool the way Shotcut is. The EULA does include an anti-piracy mechanism, but it explicitly states the data collected "will not include any customer data created with the Product."
Hardware. Published minimums are an 8th-gen Intel Core i5 or Ryzen 5 with 16GB RAM and a GTX 20-series class GPU; for 4K, Boris FX recommends a 12th-gen i7 or Ryzen 7 5000, 32GB RAM, and an RTX 30-series card. Windows only: Mac editors should look at Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve.
