Lightworks pairs a pro editing heritage with license documents that do not police your content. We checked both the EULA and the terms: no content restriction in either. The only conduct rules cover unlawful use and the community forums, and termination requires a material breach. Among paid NLEs, only VEGAS Pro matches this posture as clearly.
The free tier is a trial, not a production tool. It exports at up to 720p (no watermark), which rules out delivery work. 4K export needs the Create tier at $13.99 a month, $139.99 a year, or $199.99 once; Pro adds 8K at $27.99 a month or $419.99 once. That $199.99 perpetual 4K license is the quiet bargain here: pay once, own it, no subscription.
It is not fully offline. Installing and registering licenses requires an internet connection, and the EULA reserves "periodic verification." Editing itself is local and nothing uploads your media, but an occasional license check is part of the deal. If zero network contact is the requirement, that is Shotcut or Kdenlive.
Runs on everything. Windows, macOS and Linux, which makes it one of the few paid NLEs on Linux at all. The published hardware specs read dated (an i7 and "4 GB RAM or higher"); treat 16GB and a real GPU as the practical floor for 4K work.
