Shotcut is the zero-strings editor: free, GPL, and it never touches the network. The project's FAQ states it plainly: Shotcut "does NOT require access to the network to activate, check a subscription, or send usage analytics," and it "does not collect, store, or share any personal information." For producers who want post-production fully offline, this is as clean as desktop software gets.
The license permits everything. GPLv3, same as Kdenlive: no EULA, no content clause, no account that can be terminated. What you edit is nobody's business by architecture, not by promise.
Capability is honest mid-tier. Cross-platform (Windows 10 1809 and later, macOS 12 and later, Linux), no watermark, no paid tier, steady releases from Meltytech. The FAQ asks for 8 CPU cores and 16GB RAM for 4K. It will not match Resolve's grading or VEGAS's timeline depth, and the interface takes a session or two to click, but for cuts, trims, titles and encodes it does the job every day.
Bottom line. The pick when license safety and privacy outrank feature depth. If you need more editor at the same price and freedom, step up to Kdenlive; if you need pro grading, that is DaVinci Resolve territory. Context in the editing software guide.
